"Twilight's Hot Gleaming" Robert Pattinson takes the cover of Vanity Fair magazine's December 2009 issue. Vanity Fair contributing editor Evgenia Peretz interviews Pattinson, Stewart, and a host of Twilight insiders for an intimate profile that describes how he landed the role of Edward Cullen, distills the essence of his appeal, and explores his discomfort with the hormone-fueled frenzy he inspires among his fans. You can read a preview of the interview at VF.com.
Despite the fact that he is an exquisite beauty—with perfectly formed red, red lips and a face that might have been dreamed by the Romantic poets—he thinks he resembles “a cartoon character.” One of his legs is longer than the other, which makes him look, he assures you, “like an idiot.”
Images here are from the first of four slide shows from VF.com - featuring outtakes from Pattinson's session with photographer Bruce Weber. MORE OUTTAKES on the next page. Read the full article and see the exclusive photographs of Pattinson (only available in the print edition) in December 2009 issue of Vanity Fair, available on newsstands in New York and Los Angeles on November 4 and nationally on November 10.
Vanity Fair pays homage to the late Heath Ledger in their August 2009 issue, tackling the questions of his untimely death and the source of his unhappiness. The magazine also provides a selection of images taken by photographer Bruce Weber, some published - some not...all capturing 'the looks, character, and promise that the actor’s co-workers and friends described' in the mag's accompanying cover story. MORE PHOTOS on the next page.

Vanity Fair takes a trip with cover star Johnny Depp to his private Caribbean island for their July 2009 issue. VF's Douglas Brinkley reports that “Johnny Depp’s Great Escape" is pretty damn great." Says Depp of the island, “I don’t think I’d ever seen any place so pure and beautiful. You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats. It’s instant freedom.”
Depp also talks to Brinkley about his hobbies, filming his new movie - Public Enemies, his favorite Hollywood icon, his approach to acting, and which famous fictional character he'd like to play.

Chris Pine portrays James T. Kirk in the new J.J. Abram's Star Trek prequel, Star Trek...making him the first to step into the shoes of the original captain, William Shatner. The part didn't come easily however. Feeling much like an SNL skit, Pine's first audition for the role didn't go so well. Says Pine, "It was all this jargon talk of torpedoes and photons." Despite stumbling over the words, Pine got another chance to audition seven months later and the part was his.

One of the most compelling athletes you'll be seeing in the Beijing 2008 Olympics, Andrew Howe ranks 36th in Time's "100 Athletes to Watch". Equally compelling are these photographs of Howe in the current edition of Vanity Fair (Italy). Though an L.A. native, Howe has lived in Italy since the age of 5 and first made his Italian Olympic debut in Athens four years ago. Having won the silver medal for the long jump in the 2007 World Championships, Howe follows in the "springy footsteps of Fiona May, the British-born star who married her Italian-born coach and won silver medals for Italy at the Atlanta and Sydney games."
You may not by gay, but your car is...or so says Brett Berk's Stick Shift, a new weekly column at VanityFair.com. Each Thursday, Stick Shift will showcase specific "Gay" Cars and their underlying queerness. Says it's author:
"We won't go after low-hanging fruit like Saturns or Subarus. Instead, we’ll focus on the obscure and the ambiguous: cars that emit the subtle semiotic signals that register on my GayCarDar. In addition to ID-ing individual Homotivators, we’ll run comparison features (“Which Car is Gayer”), perform outings (“Closet Case Cars”) or answer burning questions (“How Do Gay Guys Keep Their Cars So Clean?”). And while we will, by necessity, trade in stereotypes, we wish to remind readers that it’s all meant in fun."
