Some told photographer Richard Gerst, "Give up on Apple and Defensio. It will never happen." But nearly two years in the making, after controversy, rejections and multiple submissions, Gerst's first monograph entitled "Defensio" - which completely sold out as a pricey, signed, limited edition hardbound print run prior to going to press, and is the first photo monograph unequivocally of this genre targeting adults ever approved by Apple® for sale on the iPad and iPhone® - has finally been formally approved in digital form by Apple®, Inc. and is for sale exclusively through iTunes® via the app: PHOTO BOOKS INS, as the application's premier art book for sale.
The digital edition of "Defensio" includes the insightful introduction penned by fashion editor Jason Salzenstein, as well as an audio artist interview with Gerst, who describes the purpose and intent of the book, it's complex layers of social commentary, and the collaborative effort among many to aid in its production, with exclusive behind the scenes video footage of the making of "Defensio" premiering only via the digital edition.
"Defensio" includes such talent as Nick Ayler (Elite-Miami), Jason Vendryes (Colby-New York), Kurt Lima (cover model, Vision-LA), Tosh Yanez (Wilhelmina-LA), Roly Szegi, Alex Kruz and many others.
