KEN HUNT: JUST CALL ME DR. NO

KEN HUNT: JUST CALL ME DR. NO

Even the best fitness plans can fail due to simple mistakes. So let me present my big NO’s...nine really big NO NO's that keep people from reaching their fitness goals.

  1. PERSONAL PAN PIZZAS. (What a marketing ploy this is) Take a look at the calorie count on these. Most of them run between 1,800 and 2,500 calories. For most people, this is an entire day's allotment of calories.

  2. THREE SQUARE MEALS. NO! Eat six small meals. Make each one nutritious, but don't fill up.†

  3.  DRINKING COLAS.  Liquor, obviously, is just empty calories. And sodas are not OK either. Say NO! Try sparkling water instead.

  4. MORE NO NO's ...

  • STAYING UP LATE. Sleep deprivation causes all kinds of problems. If you want to look and feel lousy, stay up late. If you want to decrease your level of performance at work (or in school), stay up late. But if you want your mind and body to be working properly, get your sleep.

  • LOADING UP ON SUPPLEMENTS. A supplementation program, intelligently devised, can provide great results to anyone seeking increased energy, better appearance, or better health. But just taking the latest hyped-up stuff is a waste of money. Most of what's on the market doesn't do what the ads claim. Be selective. Less is more.

  • TOTAL BODY WORKOUTS. For beginners, these are OK because the intensity is low. But after a couple of months of training, this kind of workout has outlived its usefulness.

  • LOW INTENSITY "WORKOUTS." (as moronic as the phrase “military intelligence”) About 90 percent of the people going to gyms are not getting results. Doubt that? Just look around at all the flabby bodies. Yet, some people seem to look better every time you run into them. Why the difference? In a word, intensity.

  • OVERTRAINING. You can't work the same muscle group in each workout. A properly worked muscle needs several days to recover (partly because you are using it lightly when working other muscle groups).

  • FOCUSING ON ISOLATION EXERCISES. It will help you create the proper hormonal environment for muscular growth.

  • And I am going to include one more!. "OBSESSING OVER YOUR PHYSIQUE."
  • Please remember that your body will never be perfect. There will always be something for you to work on. Even if it were, who would really care? Keep things in perspective. Train hard, eat right and sleep right, so that you are fit and healthy and able to do things that make life more enjoyable.

I recently attended an event in LA and you were there. You are the most incredible man around. Your passion for fitness is amazing. You were like a Greek God dishing out your wisdom with a bit a Southern charm. I have been around the block many times but you are a real breath of fresh air to the fitness and socail scene. My friends and I were in awe of how you stood there commanding the room as if you owned it but yet making everyone welcome and relaxed. This is a real talent and soon I am sure we will all see and hear more of you. Your star is rising my man. Keep it up..

    Barbara

Ken, another brilliant article. I love everything you are doing for not just men, but us women. Thank you!

    Jill

I heard that you were traveling the country soon. Is this a listening tour for an upcoming book? As a female I can tell you that your ideas and presentation have given me not only the will to workout on those days I had rather not.You have also helped me with my personal life to be a better person. I have seen you in person once in New York at a Broadway show and someone called you "the Gym Guy". You smiled, stood up straight and made that person feel like he was in the presence of a genuine celebrity. Ken, I think you had better realize that at your size, shape and with the ability you have that you are a real gem to us all. I was just pleased to be in the same room with you. You did not stop smiling all night and you were most gracious to even to the most annoying fan. You are an all around great man. My husband looks up to you. Everyone does and should..Please, keep writing and give us a book soon.

    Karen

Dear Ken--where in the world do you get your ideas for these articals? Its just amazing the take you have on fitness and working out. I do love reading them but I really am hoping for a book--is there one on the way. You are so inspiring to us all. I love working out and am always interested in different ideas and techniques. I just admire the fact that you have taken both a mental and physical approach to the idea of wellness. Thanks again and keep up the great work. let me know when you are going to be in the Cleveland area. Thanks Karen

    The Big Lifter LA

Am headed to NYC this week for the Black Party All I keep hearing about is Steel Gym So I am looking forward to checking it out and seeing what the buzz is about. You certainly have built up a great reputation as one of the best GYM's to work out at. You seem to be everywhere. Which, I think is a good thing. Will be there on Thursday and will stop in to introduce myself. All the best Robert
