GAY DOESN'T COME CHEAP

John Cloud's article in the October 21, 2008 issue of the Advocate argues that "sexual orientation isn’t just about whom you sleep with but how much of your identity is tied up in the things you have to buy (not to mention the price you’re willing to pay for them)." What about you? Is your identity...your "being gay"...dependent on costly underwear and $345 jeans? Personally, I think it's a cultural image that people get sucked in to...much like I did when I first came out. Luckily I grew up - and apart - from that way of thinking. Sure, I like nice things. Who doesn't. But who I am as a person is in no way tied to my car, house, or underwear (although, I do have a thing for undies!). Interesting reading - and a heated debate within the comments section. Check it out.
