IN THE LIFE REMEMBERS DEL MARTIN

As many of you are aware, LGBT civil rights activist and pioneer Del Martin died yesterday, just two months after making history by wedding her longtime partner, Phyllis Lyon, in San Francisco City Hall. IN THE LIFE is privileged to be airing never-before-seen footage of Del and her partner of 55 years, Phyllis Lyon, becoming the first same-sex couple to wed in California after the state Supreme Court mandated equal marriage rights for gay men and lesbians.

Also in the 17th Season Premiere episode of IN THE LIFE, "Civil Rites & Civil Rights", takes an in-depth look at the journey to marriage equality in America's most populous state, and the real possibility that this newly gained right could be erased with the passage of the Proposition 8 referendum in November. In "A Conversation With....", Jonathan Capehart, Pulitzer Prize editorial writer at the Washington Post talks with Julian Bond, Chair of the NAACP about the intersections of gay rights, civil rights, and marriage equality.

It's disappointing to learn of fellow Americans who would stoop to peddling lies to support their position. Google "Six Consequences if Proposition 8 Fails" ... these are six totally false talking points that the "Yes on 8" campaign is trying to use to fire up their target voters. Anyone who bothers to study the issue will quickly learn that these six "consequences" are total fabrications and sad examples of ugly fearmongering from the "Yes on 8" campaign. Shame.
