BMW Bends to the Gays

Looks like BMW is bowing bending over to the gays these days - not that I'm complaining.  While some are wondering if this will hurt BMW's sales by offending people who are not gay, I think it's smart.  Niche marketing works, especially when the niche has more expendable income (than most).  While these ads have appeared in West Hollywood, I've yet to see one here in San Francisco or in the Castro.  I'll keep my eyes open.

I think it's a joke! So the gay "community" is swayed because the sexual connotations of the ad? Does that say that we are to stupid to understand the actual attributes of the car? To me what it really announces to the world is that gay men are totally sex-focused, and all that does is reinforce the stereotype of promiscuity that we're saddled with. If BMW just had regular ads that were place in places where gay folks would see them, they would have more credibility to me. This is just pure pandering.

Honestly I think this ad campaign is very clever. It is just a light way of expressing what a car may be thinking if it had a brain. BMW is definetly gay friendly and to me that is important. In a past study around 2003 the BMW 3 series was the car that was most bought my gay men, me included. The 3 series is so trendy-chic-cute- and most of all it is a BMW machine. So let's not make more of what this ad is saying. It is all in good fun.
