ADLICIOUS: Hetero-Friendly Hotel Chain
While browsing magazines for a possible 2007 trip to Barcelona, I came across this ad for Axel Hotels. While directed toward the gay community, the first designer chain of gay hotels prefers not to define itself as 'gay' but rather "hetero-friendly"...where freedom and tolerance allow for welcoming all people equally, regardless of their sexual orientation. "Any person without prejudice is well-received, respected and valued" at Axel Hotels.
Already voted the "Best Gay Hotel In The World" by the readers of The Out Traveler, Axel has set the style-standard not only for gay accommodations, but for advertising campaigns aimed at the gay community.
Seeking the complicity and subjectivity of the gay community, Axel's online ad campaign provides a stimulating ineractive experience complete with virtual tours, while their print ads bait you with tempting images and daring slogans:
His naked body, a king-size bed, a Kenzo headboard, bathrobes, plasma TV, CD player, internet connection and all of the glamour that you can imagine...because your dreams shouldn't have limits."
My hat (and pants!) go off to Axel Hotels as this week's Adlicious pick! I know I'll be choosing Axel next time I'm in Barcelona (or in Buenos Aires - opening soon).
